The real question is what behaviour you want from the pump in the circuit you are building, and what risks you are willing to manage with technique and monitoring.
What the pumps do differently
A roller pump is fundamentally occlusive. It gives a more directly set output, and it will keep trying to deliver that output even when downstream conditions become dangerous.
A centrifugal pump is more afterload sensitive. Flow depends on the pump setting and the pressure conditions around it, which means the operator has to interpret RPM, pressure, and actual flow together.

That is why a good educational article should avoid pretending the evidence has settled every clinical question. The stronger teaching point is what each pump asks of the perfusionist.
The bedside consequences
With a roller system, the major cognitive burden is pressure awareness and occlusion discipline. With a centrifugal system, the burden shifts toward interpreting afterload and recognising that the displayed speed is not the same thing as guaranteed flow.
In both cases, safe practice comes from understanding the mechanism rather than decorating the panel with labels.
